The station in El Escorial is on Madrid Light Rail (Cercanias, in Spanish) Line C-8a. Trains stop at the light rail stations at Atocha, Recoletos, Nuevos Ministerios (connecting to Metro Line 8, which stops at Barajas Airport) and Chamartín, and run from 6 AM to 11:30 PM. From the station, the Conference venue can be reached by foot (the walk uphill takes about 10 minutes) or by taking one of the buses that depart from outside the station and go up to San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Take the exit toward the Monastery at the station, which is reached by heading left and up the stairs, or by taking the lift, after passing through the exit turnstiles.

There are two bus routes that run from Madrid to El Escorial: Line 661 (via Galapagar) and Line 664 (via Guadarrama), both of which depart from the Moncloa Transport Hub (Intercambiador, in Spanish) (on Metro Lines 3 and 4) bound for the San Lorenzo de El Escorial bus station. If you decide to come by bus, we recommend that you take Line 661 (via Galapagar), which has a stop that is right near the Residence. If you take the 664 (via Guadarrama), you must reach the bus station and then walk about 20 minutes (downhill) or take another bus from there.

The easiest access is from Exit 47 (El Escorial-Guadarrama) on the A-6 (Madrid-A Coruña) motorway. From this exit, you reach the M-600 road, which you take toward El Escorial. After about 10 km and two roundabouts, you enter the town of San Lorenzo and M-600 becomes Juan de Toledo street. Continue heading straight on this street toward the Monastery. After some three kilometres, Juan de Toledo street ends at the “T” intersection with Carretera de La Estación (Station Road), with a beautiful view of the Monastery to the right. Turn left here and head down Carretera de La Estación. In about 500 m you will reach a traffic light. At the light, Carretera de La Estación branches off to the left into Av. Felipe II and to the right into Av. Reyes Católicos. The “Casa de Ejercicios San José” is located right on the corner, although the entrance is on Av. Reyes Católicos. You may park your vehicle inside the property. (If anything is unclear, we recommend using GPS).
